Services

All GP practices are contracted to provide “essential services” that is basic treatment of people who are ill. We also provide the following “additional services”

Contraceptive Services

We provide contraception services including insertion & removal of Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive implants. Specialist services such as IUCD implants are available at the local Family Planning Clinic.

Postnatal Services

Once you have had your baby you will be issued a 6 week appointment for you and your baby. This should be arranged by your health visitor.

Travel Immunisations

As of April 1st 2022 General Practices will no longer be providing travel health services. Patients should access information on what vaccinations are required, together with malarial and safe travel advice from the links below-

General Vaccinations - NHSGGC

Ad hoc vaccinations will also no longer be the responsibility of practices from 1st April. Patients will need to be referred by the practice and will be asked to complete a form - see link below. Patients should be aware that they may receive a call from an 0800 or withheld number in order to arrange the appointment.

Well woman/Cervical smears

We urge all women to have regular cervical smears and perform regular self- examination of the breasts.  If you are aged between 20 and 60 and have not had a cervical smear in the last 3 years, please make an appointment to have this done.

Health Checks

• Annual comprehensive reviews for patients with heart disease.
• Annual comprehensive reviews for patients with diabetes.
• Chronic disease monitoring including asthma, stroke, hypertension and COPD.

We also hold contracts with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde for the following “enhanced services”:

• Regular monitoring, by blood and urine tests, for patients on a range of drugs for arthritis and bowel problems.
• A methadone substitution programme for patients with drug abuse problems.

(If you are seeking advice and support for concerns about your child or a young person's day to day activities). 

The service can assist with any concerns about your child's development, such as movement skills, speech and language, communication, self-care, play.

Ear Irrigation

From the 22nd November 2023 ear irrigation will now be available in Renfrewshire through self referral. The direct contact number is 0141 207 7760 and the clinic will be ran every Wednesday in the treatment room at Renfrew Health and Social Work Centre. There will be a high demand for this service and patients should be aware there may be a waiting list initially.

Nurse Clinics

Our Nurse provides many of the preventative monitoring and screening services for the Practice. These include:

• Asthma Monitoring
• Diabetic Monitoring
• Hypertension Monitoring
• Cervical Smears
• Breath Tests
• Smoking Cessation
• Family Planning
• Weight Reduction
• Heart Disease Clinics

Our staff nurse and healthcare assistant will see patients who have been referred by the doctors for the following: -

• Blood Tests
• Removal of Stitches
• Change of Dressings
• Blood Pressure Monitoring
• Smear Tests
• Ear Syringing blocked ears selfcare guidelines

Attached Services

District Nursing Team

The attached District Nursing Team assess and provide nursing care to patients in their own home. They provide advice, support and care for a variety of conditions and work in close liaison with the practice team and other support agencies.

Health Visiting Team

The health visiting team offers support and health advice to families with babies and children under 5 years on topics such as breastfeeding, postnatal depression, child development and information on local groups. They assess the needs of the elderly who are housebound and are able to refer to other agencies as appropriate. They also offer lifestyle advice on smoking, exercise and healthy eating.

Community Link Worker

The link worker can support patient’s in linking them with activities and resources in the community including: benefit advice, housing advice, physical activity, mental well being, carers advice, volunteering and employability.

Renfrewshire Bereavement Network are a free bereavement support service to anyone within the Renfrewshire area.

Non NHS Services

Not all services offered by Doctors are available on the NHS, Medical Examinations for special purposes eg. HGV licences and services such as completion of insurance forms will incur a fee.

Drive Ability Scotland has a centre in Glasgow who conduct assessments on behalf of the DVLA and Motability. They accept referrals from Health Professionals who believe that an assessment would benefit their patients to ensure they are safe to drive by assessing their physical and cognitive driving skills. Please note there is a charge for this service.

Minor Surgery Clinic

Joint injections (knees and shoulders), soft tissue injections (bursitis of elbows, knees and hips, plantar faciitis, trigger fingers, golfers and tennis elbows) can be injected in a normal double appointment with Dr McColl
